What is a Pet Dental?

A pet dental is a professional cleaning of your pet's teeth and gums. Just like humans, pets can develop plaque and tartar buildup on their teeth, which can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and even tooth loss. In addition, bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and affect other organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys. This is why is is crucial to prioritize your pet's dental health.

During a pet dental, we will use specialized tools to remove this buildup and check for any other dental issues that may be present.

Benefits of Regular Pet Dentals

Regular pet dentals have numerous benefits for your pet. First and foremost, they can prevent serious dental issues from developing. By removing plaque and tartar buildup, you can prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and other dental problems that can cause pain and discomfort for your pet. Additionally, regular pet dentals can also improve your pet's overall health.

Signs Your Pet May Need a Dental Cleaning

It's important to pay attention to your pet's dental health and look for any signs that they may need a dental cleaning. Some common signs include:

  • Bad breath
  • Difficulty eating
  • Drooling
  • Red or swollen gums

If you notice any of these signs, it's important to schedule a pet dental as soon as possible to prevent further dental issues from developing.

Pet Dental Options

For clients who are interested in trying different options to help save teeth suffering from periodontal disease, we offer several different products:

  • Bonding - Fractured or worn teeth are usually painful and can lead to pulp (nerve) chamber exposure. With pulp exposure there are only two treatment options, extraction or endodontic therapy (bonding, root canal). Bonding therapy is a service we provide on live teeth which smooth’s the affected site and plugs the exposed nerve chamber. This process gives the tooth time to make a permanent "patch" of its own through the deposition of reparative dentin. Depending on the state of the tooth when it was bonded, the process may have to be repeated in the future.
  • Bone Graft - Extracting certain teeth can leave large voids in the jaw bone. Without filling these voids, the jaw is at risk of fracturing. Osteoallograft Periomix and Synergy are the products we use to fill the voids and help prevent fractures from occurring.
  • Antibiotic Gel - Clindoral fills deeps pockets around the teeth and temporarily acts as a barrier for food and microorganisms while the gums heal after a dental cleaning. This gel thickens and remains in place for 7 days while slowly releasing an antibiotic.

Regular pet dentals are an important aspect of pet health. By scheduling regular cleanings, you can prevent serious dental issues and improve your pet's overall health. If you notice any signs of dental issues in your pet, be sure to schedule a dental cleaning as soon as possible.
